So we all know that food can be one of the best parts of a good party, but it’s definitely the most stressful part for the hostess. If you are like me I have slight panic attacks and nightmares about nothing coming out right, burning things, etc. whenever I have people over.

Below are some cocktail party food and desert ideas that keeps things simple, but use some creative details to make everything look more dressed up by adding a decorative flair to simple foods.

Lets’s start with the appetizers…

I love this idea for grilled cheese and tomato soup shots.  I have also seen it done with french toast and maple syrup if you are doing a brunch or with chocolate chip cookies and milk.

From Oh Happy Day

Easy cheese plate, with classy details about what types of cheeses to try.

Mac & Cheese Cups! Um, yes please…the recipe is available here. If you have a party and make these, please invite me!

Caprese kabobs, easy and delish and looks great.

And now on to the desert options…

From Jens Own Road blog

Angel food cake and strawberry kabobs drizzled with chocolate. It’s amazing when you begin to look just how much you can “kabob!”

I love this use of spoons and ribbons to dress up a simple pudding dessert.

Something I see over and over again and absolutely love are all the different types of “bars” out there. Candy, hot chocolate, popcorn, cookies. Like kabobs you can really make a fun bar out of any type of food or dessert.

From Fete Fanatic

And perhaps you could use these Etsy bags for something fun to put the candy in.

Hope you enjoyed these ideas for party snacks! Happy planning!

We went to a wedding last year that had a Mashed Potato Bar. It was, in a word, outrageous. So good!! One side was regular mashed, the other was mashed sweet potatoes. With every topping imaginable – bacon, salsa, sour cream, broccoli, gravy, cheese, mushrooms, etc. Big hit!

One of my friends did that too and it was awesome. I want a mac and cheese bar myself 🙂
